Cuidar de animais de estimação

Uma amiga de uma amiga pediu-me para tomar conta dos seus animais de estimação durante cinco dias.

O dono da casa tem sete animais de estimação: um cão (um Wolfhound irlandês), cinco gatos e um pequeno papagaio.

Quando cheguei, senti-me imediatamente em casa.

Era um ambiente muito relaxante. 

Os animais estavam todos muito descontraídos.

Senti-me tão relaxada que me deitei na cama durante muito tempo.

O cão, “Finnegan”, era muito afetuoso. 

Ele gostava de esfregar a cabeça na minha coxa.

Na primeira manhã, por volta das cinco e meia da manhã, acordei e não consegui encontrar o meu marido ou Finnegan em casa.

Pouco tempo depois, ambos apareceram.

O meu marido tinha levado o Finnegan a dar um passeio!

O meu marido tinha descoberto como usar o cabresto (anti-puxão para cães) sozinho.

Era engraçado porque o meu marido não é uma pessoa muito dada a cães.

Tivemos muitos visitantes, incluindo a minha irmã e o seu cachorrinho Bichon Havanês "Sam".

Quanto aos cinco gatos, eles apareceram em várias ocasiões ao longo dos cinco dias.

“Hella” era a mais sociável e por isso chamei-lhe "Número Um"!

Só vi o "Número Cinco" um par de vezes, principalmente durante as tardes.

Quanto ao papagaio, chamado "Amazon", o dono tinha dito que podia tirá-lo da sua gaiola, mas que ele podia morder-me.

Disse que deveria usar luvas de inverno se decidisse tirá-lo da gaiola.

Decidi não o tirar, pois não queria que ele me mordesse.

Além disso, pensei que seria difícil levá-lo de volta para a sua gaiola.

Mas no quinto dia, após ter trocado o seu lençol no fundo da gaiola por lençóis limpos, decidi que deveria acrescentar mais comida e água à sua gaiola.

Calcei as luvas de inverno e também um casaco de inverno, para que ele não pudesse morder os meus braços.

Enquanto tentava tirar a tigelinha do lado da gaiola, ele saltou para o meu braço, depois caminhou até ao meu ombro e depois subiu para cima da minha cabeça!

Depois voltou para o meu ombro, e preparou-se durante algum tempo.

Depois voltou para o meu lado, pendurado de cabeça para baixo!

Consegui (com sucesso) colocá-lo numa mesa onde estava o seu saco de comida.

Finnegan e Hella vieram e Hella bateu-lhe ou tentou bater-lhe com a sua pata.

Mas a Amazon conseguiu defender-se facilmente.

Depois disso, o cão, o gato e o pássaro estavam juntos pacificamente. 

Gostei muito do meu tempo a tomar conta dos animais. 

Senti-me como o Dr. Dolittle, um dos meus heróis de infância.

Sinto falta dos animais e por isso vou visitá-los dentro de alguns dias.

A dona pediu-me para cuidar novamente dos seus animais de estimação no final deste mês e em Setembro.

Sei que no primeiro dia, vou deixar a Amazon sair da gaiola para poder desfrutar do seu comportamento engraçado!

Pet-sitting

A friend of a friend asked me to take care of her pets for five days.

The owner of the house has seven pets: one dog (an Irish Wolfhound), five cats and a small parrot.

When I arrived, I immediately felt at home.

It was a very relaxing environment. 

The animals were all very relaxed.

And I felt so relaxed I just lay down in bed for a long while.

The dog, Finnegan, was very affectionate. 

He liked to rub his head up against my thigh.

The first morning, around five thirty in the morning, I woke up and could not find my husband or Finnegan in the house.

Shortly after, they both appeared.

My husband had taken Finnegan for a walk!

My husband had figured out how to use the (anti-pull) halter on his own.

It was funny because my husband is not what you would call a “dog person”

We had lots of visitors, including my sister and her Havanese puppy “Sam”.

As for the five cats, they appeared at various times throughout the five days.

Hella was the most social and so I called her “Number One.”!

I only saw “Number Five” a couple of times, mostly during the evenings.

As for the parrot, called “Amazon”, the owner had said I could take him out of his cage, but that he may bite me.

She said that I should use winter gloves if I decided to take him out.

I decided not to take him out as I did not want him to bite me.

Plus I thought it would be difficult to get him back into his cage.

But on the fifth day, after changing his sheet on the bottom of the cage to clean sheets, I decided that I should add some more food and water to his cage.

I put on the winter gloves and also a winter coat, so he could not bite my arms.

As I was trying to get the little bowl out from the side of the cage, he jumped onto my arm, then walked up to my shoulder then went up on my head!

Then he went back to my shoulder, and groomed himself for a while.

Then he was back on my side, hanging upside down!

I managed to get him onto a table where his food bag was.

Finnegan and Hella came over and Hella batted him or tried to hit him with her paw.

But Amazon was able to easily defend himself.

After that, the dog, cat and bird were together peacefully. 

I really enjoyed my time taking care of the animals. 

I felt like Doctor Dolittle, one of my childhood heroes.

I miss the animals and so will visit them in a few days.

The owner has asked me to take care of her pets again later this month and in September.

I know that on the first day, I will let Amazon out of the cage so I can enjoy his funny behaviour!
